Computers have changed in every possible way since their inception. A computer used to take up an entire room to carry out the simplest of tasks. Today, a handheld device can perform the same tasks, in half the time, and much more efficiently. Most business people and students regularly carry laptop computers with them.
Why all the changes? There are better ways to do things being discovered all the time. Over time it was discovered that sitting all day at the computer can have adverse effects on the body. Sitting in a computer chair all day, hunched over a keyboard was bringing a whole new set of issues. Back and neck problems were popping up all over the place.
Computer Chairs
The computer chair business is booming. New chairs are coming out daily, ones with the ergonomics to keep your back and neck aligned properly, taking pressure off of parts of the body where it is needed. Good posture is very important to avoiding injury and/or pain while you are sitting at the computer.
Keyboards.
Keyboards have changed over the years as well. What started with a wrist pad to keep your fingers positioned properly so as not to cause undue stress, has given way to entirely new keyboards, curved, or split in half. The different styles are designed for comfort, as well as for health reasons. Being on a computer for long periods of time can have a negative effect on your wrists and hands as well, and aligning your body to keep everything in line can help you avoid pain and injury down the line.
Monitors
Computer monitors have run the gamut from big and bulky to flat screen, with many options for viewing. You can make the background a different color and change font and letter size to suit your needs. The actual monitor screens have become larger over the years, for easy viewing.
Now your monitor can actually help you keep your good posture. There are monitors that have now been programmed to watch your posture and let you know when you need to improve or change it. It can actually sense when you are slouching, or sitting too close, or straining your neck, and it sends a pop up warning, so that you can immediately correct your posture.
Chronic back pain is a common complaint among people who have spent years sitting at the computer, along with a stiff neck and strained vision. With a monitor that can “monitor” the way you use the computer, warning you each time you are not keeping your body aligned properly, there could be a lot less chronic pain and strained vision that can be blamed on too many late nights on the computer
